Endoscopy Endoscopy is the use of fiberoptic instruments to explore the body without the need for surgery. The flexible gastroscope can be used to visualize the stomach and intestinal tract and can be used to retrieve some foreign bodies or biopsy tissue. The flexibility of the scope also allows us to look at the respiratory tract in our larger canine patients. All exams with the flexible scope require general anesthesia and are performed in the surgery room. |

Ultrasound Machine The ultrasound is a non-painful, non-evasive way to obtain more information about certain tissues or organs. It works when crystals send out sound waves that reflect back from tissues. These reflections or echoes give us three-dimensional images that tell us what might be happening within that tissue. Some instances in which an ultrasound is used to evaluate include: viewing pregnant animals and their fetuses; viewing bladders to look for stones or masses; viewing livers to look for signs of masses or chronic changes; viewing hearts to notify us if heart disease is present, and if so, what level and how to treat; viewing kidneys to evaluate architectures, and the presence of stones or masses.
Most animals do not even need to be sedated for a diagnostic ultrasound. It doesn’t hurt the animal either, so unless we have a pet that is very anxious or wiggly, they commonly lie still for us and enjoy the attention. We do need to shave the skin over the area we ultrasound because the hair stops the air which we want all of our sound waves to penetrate. |

Lab Care Animal Hospital’s In-House Laboratory allows the veterinarians to evaluate patient health and make a diagnosis without having to wait on lab results. Although we still use an outside commercial veterinary laboratory for many tests, we can run many samples right here in the hospital.
The laboratory here is also used for health screening prior to surgery, to evaluate organ function and cell counts in sick or injured animals and to monitor organ function in animals with chronic disease. |

Digital X-Ray Care Animal Hospital has a new state-of- the-art Digital Radiograph machine. With this new equipment, we are able to take x-rays of your pet in 6 - 8 seconds and at lower x-ray exposure levels than with the traditional film technology. It enables our staff to not only take better exposures of the problem, but we can also receive feedback from specialists by simply sending an email. In fact, we now send a CD home with you that contains the images of your pet and can be viewed on your personal computer. |
